Strewth footy fans, what a gutsy away day for the Orrell St James U13 Girls out at Rochdale on Saturday – 32-6 the final score in a game that showed exactly what these young guns are made of!A few girls were missing, so positions got shuffled left, right and centre, but every single one of them stood up to be counted like true Orrell warriors. They kept a strong Rochdale side to just a four-point gap at the break, but the home mob turned it on in the second half and ran away with it. Then came the moment that stopped everyone in their tracks – a bad leg injury to Annabelle that left the whole team emotional and stunned. But fair dinkum, the girls gave a proper account of themselves right to the final whistle. Emotions ran high and there were a few tears at the end, but that just showed how much heart and energy they poured into every tackle and every run.Now the awards – Isabella was a rock, playing three different positions (two of them brand new), and becoming the vocal stronghold of the second half to take the Coaches’ award. Ruby was pure class, grabbing the Parents’ and Coaches’ award for her tenacity and brilliance in attack. Isla picked up the Moment of the Match for that brilliant stepping run through their defence and a cheeky offload that nearly ended in a try. And welcome back to Grace – absent for over a year – who returned and bagged both the Top Tackler award and the Opposition’s nod for some seriously gritty defence. We move on now to next Saturday at home against Lowca – Bankes Ave will be rocking, so don’t miss it!Up the mighty Orrell St James! These lasses never know when they’re beaten and they’re only getting better. See ya at the next one, ya mugs! ??
