Watched by a crowd of well over two hundred, Northampton fielded a big powerful side who tried hard throughout the game but who were no match for a very skillful Orrell team. Ten minutes into the match quick hands gave half an opening to Fullback Jack Mc Hugh for him to outpace the opposition and register the first try. Brad Roby failed with the difficult conversion but made no mistake when a set play put Bradley Gallagher in under the posts. St James' solid defence kept their line intact and, on the half hour Mc Hugh registered his second and supplied the final pass for Sam Baggaleys' first. Roby converted both to give a half time score of 22 - 0

Unfortunately OSJ lost their full back early in the second half, collecting a grubber kick and knee at the same time, and Mc Hugh took no further part in the game. The normal attacking machine was disrupted for a time and the Demons set siege to the Orrell line, but normal service was resumed on 20 mins when Tom Whittle went close and sustained pressure resulted in skipper David Kennedy powering his way over in the corner. Kennedy continued to play havoc running wide and superb handling gave Kyle Topping an overlap. Baggaley applied the coup de grace in the closing minutes with his second try.

Orrell's defensive display was again of the highest order, especially by their very mobile pack with Sam Lewis to the fore. This provided the platform for the backs to exhibit superb handling skills and to please the appreciative crowd. Who knows how far they can go in this competition?
