Orrell got back to winning ways on Saturday with a well earned win against a good Reds team who looked to be well drilled and a threat right to the end.
Coach McHugh had an abundance of talent to choose from with all the boy band turning up sober and four pretenders from the U18s stepping up. The 18s lads seamed to fit in really well and the only time they looked a bit lost was in the changing room when they were taught a lesson in male grooming. They appeared totally in awe of Richies combing Gazs hair and couldn’t understand lads putting moisturiser on for each other.
OSJ had to alter things early on with hooker Robie going down with a severely twisted sock. Soz Heaton moved up to the pack in his first ever big lads game and the returning Dave Kenny slotted in at 6. Orrell played some great rugby and centre Mean Dean Thompson was having a field day out wide with all the space created for him. In the other centre Rich McCloud was also creating space and set up a try for Joining Jeff with what can only be described as a miracle ball. The Orrell pack were looking big in the new tight fitting kit but were blowing a bit due to most of them trying to play the full game breathing in.
Orrell played very well in defence and some good shots from Richies and Cheeseburger set the platform for half-backs Tufts and Kenny to dictate play in the opposition half. Captain Tufts got the team round the field really well and scored one of his trademark tries that any under 8s coach would be proud of a nice show and go from 3 yards. The 18s lads got more into the game as it went on Rob Slater was really steady at full back despite being poorly during the week with sun bed rash and Reece Taylor looked to be enjoying the physical stuff out wide.
The coaching staff are going to have a headache next week with a few lads back up for selection. Captain Cowlie returns after his duties at Wembley (dressing up as Latics mascot) Maxfield has re-arranged his pre-natal classes Moron is expected to recover from tummy ache and Tommy Heart returns from Cumbria after attending the Civil Partnership Ceremony of Steph Moseley and Baz Lloyd.
Next week OSJ entertain Latchford at Bankes Ave and are expecting a tough test despite winning over at Warrington early in the season Kick off is 2.30pm and as last week we are expecting a kids curtain raiser.
